About Time

SlowGoer is the official site for author, publisher, filmmaker, and photographer Wil Guilfoyle.

I’m the founder of SlowGoer Press. We publish audiobooks, fiction, nonfiction, and zines. Our subject matter spans philosophy, consciousness, and cultural criticism. Our first print publication is a quarterly zine called Modern Urban Goblinoid, co-created with writer and illustrator David Lake in Bellingham, Washington. It features a subculture of goblins living their best lives in a shared world with humans and cats. You can read or download the first issue for free here: https://slowgoer.com/2026/03/30/3651/

I write science fiction predominantly, and have a science fiction short story collection called “Technoalities” coming out in Fall. My work is currently out for submission to Apex, Escape Pod, McSweeney’s and several other literary journals and outlets.

I’ve been making films since I was young, and started getting serious around 2008 by directing a couple of music videos. I moved into larger dramatic works and documentaries during and after attending film school at Cal Poly Humboldt. I currently have 37 IMDb credits in roles such as Writer, Director, Producer, Editor, Composer, and Actor.

I have a very controversial essay/paper I’ve written called “The Unmarked Default: How Western Religion Wrote Dominator Hierarchy Into the Source Code of Reality,” which has been making quite a lot of waves because it challenges patriarchy and modern civilization’s basement belief systems. You can read it here on my site or at academia.edu.

I’m also a Producer and Audio Engineer for the health and wellness show, Staying Alive With Margaret and Susy, hosted by Margaret Cooley and Susy Hymas, found on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and all the major platforms. You can also check it out on the official website, linked in the name. Margaret and Susy focus on educating seniors about nutrition, maintaining wellness while we age, and how to navigate the medical system. We’re in our 2nd Season, and just finished production on our 19th episode.

I helped launch the show to uplift the voices of women at a time when powerful men are working to silence them and drag this country backward by a century.

My most recent film is The Renunciations Donika Kelly (2026), a short form documentary about the courageous poet Donika Kelly and her poetry collection “The Renunciations,” where she focuses on expressing the realities of her identity as a black, queer poet from a background of childhood sexual trauma. You can watch the film at the link above, or on this website here.

I’ve also dedicated this site to writing about great hikes, adventures, and world travel without flying. Here you’ll find adventure, art, the individual quest for inner Truth/depth, and much more. I’m Wil Guilfoyle, and I’m a science fiction writer, photographer, filmmaker, publisher and cultural critic currently living in the Pacific Northwest.

Cinema Paradiso: Film reviews and discussions about interesting cinema, and a few films by yours truly.

Stranger Than Fiction is where I share free short fiction stories and nonfiction essays I’ve written. Many of my stories are out for publication, and cannot be shared on my site for a period of publisher exclusivity. Once that ends, I’ll post the stories here, along with links to my short story collections.

Photo Baggins is my hiking, nature, and portraiture photography. I’ve been a filmmaker and photographer for 30 plus years and it’s a pleasure to share a continually expanding portfolio. I’ve photographed dozens of National Parks and beautiful beaches and wild lands over the last 8 years, and this collection reflects my best work. This summer will see the publication of my first photography book, which will be available through SlowGoer Press digitally and in print.

Into The Wild: Sharing the greatest hikes around the world for all the hiking aficionados.

FREEDOM!!!: All sorts of good information on working abroad and in remote adventurous locations. How do you earn a living while living the adventurous life? I share all that I know and all I’m still learning. I wrote this article with young people in mind, sharing the process of working and living in adventurous places, including how Americans and Canadians can legally work and live abroad in several countries for up to a year while between the ages of 18 and 30 (as an American) and 18 and 35 (as a Canadian). I’ve lived in 5 countries and 14 of the United States, earning a living along the way. It’s my pleasure to share how to do this on a platform that wants zero money from you. In my opinion, travel makes for a better voter, a better romantic partner, and a better person all around.

Around The World In 80 Ways: You’ll find all sorts of information on trains, buses, ocean travel, and roadtrips. I’ve tried to gather as much useful information to help make it possible to see the planet without leaving Earth’s surface. I hope this information is helpful.

If you like art, you’ll find a lot of great artists and art news in Chungking Express.

And if you like timeless liberating wisdom:

  1. The Conversation: Today’s world, through today’s eyes. Conversations with intelligent people.

The Reader is dedicated to sharing the best books. Feel free to join the discussion and share some of your favorites as well.

Last, there is The Core, which is a collection of short documentaries I continue to direct and produce, focused on shining a light on beautiful aspects and corners of the world and the people and beings who populate it. So far, I’ve spotlighted my Uncle, craftsman Wayne Ross Sr. and the courageous poet Donika Kelly.

I created this site as a way for me to share my creations. What I love most about SlowGoer is that I’ve made sure not to monetize it, which means you’ll never see an ad. Yay!

Please email me with any interesting information you may have to help our fellow adventurers with finding work in adventurous places or ways of grounded travel so that I can share that info on this website. I’d also love to hear about the most epic hikes on the planet, so send recommendations my way. My email is Wil@slowgoer.com
